About the Journal
Nawasena: Interdisciplinary Journal of Islamic Studies (e-ISSN: 3163-740X) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Afkaruna Journal Publisher and issued biannually in April and October. The journal provides a scholarly platform for the study of contemporary Islamic thought, practices, institutions, and Muslim societies. Nawasena aims to advance Islamic Studies by encouraging critical engagement between classical Islamic intellectual traditions and contemporary social realities. It publishes original research examining how Islamic teachings, values, intellectual traditions, religious practices, and institutions respond to social and cultural transformations in the modern world. The journal welcomes interdisciplinary approaches drawn from the humanities and social sciences, provided that Islamic Studies remains the primary field of inquiry. Such approaches may be employed to examine issues related to Islamic thought, education, culture, religious authority, Muslim identity, Islamic institutions, media, digital religious practices, community development, and contemporary challenges faced by Muslim societies. All manuscripts must demonstrate substantial engagement with Islamic thought, values, practices, institutions, or Muslim social realities. Manuscripts that address general disciplinary issues without a clear and substantive connection to Islamic Studies are outside the journal’s scope.
